Just when you think it can't get any weirder from Wayne and The Flaming Lips, this Virgin Mobile ad pops up on your T.V. As with anything involving Mr. Coyne, it's pretty out there: Wayne sits at table with about 200 lobsters on it (because he saved so much on his phone plan you see), a giant cat films a tiny man playing with yarn, a giant nose is wiped by a team of men in red bodysuits... basically your typical night seeing The Flaming Lips.
This is the second Flaming Lips associated ad in as many months, as Wayne and the rest of the band appeared just last month in a Hyundai ad on Super Bowl Sunday where they played their new song "Sun Blows Up Today". The old indie rock notions of "selling out" have obviously long since changed and it's good to see up and coming bands making much needed extra dough. The Flaming Lips don't fall into that category but 30 random seconds of joyful Lips mayhem is never a bad thing.
