The Flaming Lips dazzled fans with their usual on-stage spectacle (although apparently their was no glitter or giant hamster ball this time) and played some new material off their forthcoming album The Terror.

Jim James of My Morning Jacket played a short set before the eccentric day-glow clad rockers came out on stage. James continues to establish himself as a successful solo artist. He came out with the Flaming Lips towards the end of the latter's set.

Solange is not to be left in anyone's shadow, not even by her older sister Beyonce, who must come off as intimidating at times with a career that spans throughout multiple facets of super stardom encompassing everything from her own documentary to playing the halftime show at the Super Bowl. And yet Solange has developed her own, more discrete style. Comparisons are crass. Solange seems unperturbed as she ventures out to discover her own voice playing more eclectic gigs such as SXSW.

Billie Joe Armstrong is fresh out of rehab and stronger than ever (no pun intended). Green Day played an energetic set with a medley of covers reminding fans in Austin of Green Day's punk roots and their lively, spry performances, which have stayed consistent throughout the years.

Depeche Mode also made an appearance in support of their forthcoming 13th studio album. Most of the set consisted of new material off of their new album, Delta Machine, which is due to be released March 26th. Check out this video of Depeche Mode playing an hour set on Letterman.

Usher had a surprise performance with The Afghan Whigs, coming out midway through their set to sing a few songs with the band.

Of course there is a slew of other artists who also made appearances at the festival. The Inside the Artist's Studio Panel also mentioned some memorable performances by Wild Belle, Kendrick Lamar, Mystikal, Midnight Spin, and Palma Violets.
