Toots and the Maytals frontman Frederick "Toots" Hibbert has been forced to cancel the remainder of his US tour after being hit in the head by a glass bottle thrown by an audience member at a show on May 19. The drunken 19 year-old threw an empty glass vodka bottle at the stage at the Richmond, Virginia show, hitting Toots in the head and forcing the show to be cut short.

Toots was taken to the hospital, where he received seven stitches to close the wound. He is still undergoing treatment for the injury. The person who threw the bottle was arrested and has been charged with aggravated assault and public intoxication.

Toots continued to play several shows after the attack, but it seems that it has been too hard for him to continue doing so. At age 70, it's certainly a show of his determination that he continued on at all. He will return to Jamaica to rest and heal.

Listen to a little bit of Toots and the Maytals to make you feel better about this unfortunate event. Toots would want everyone to be happy.

These are the canceled tour dates:
May 29 - Rams Head On Stage (Acoustic). Annapolis, MD
May 30 - Ithaca, NY. The State Theater (Acoustic)
May 31 - South Orange, NJ. South Orange Performing Arts Center (Acoustic)
Jun 01 - Norfolk, CT. Infinity Hall (Acoustic)
