After a recent trip to Nashville to write songs for his upcoming album, Jake Bugg was fuming, mostly due to disappointment. The singer travelled to Nashville in order to work with other musicians and songwriters on some of his new tracks, but was hard pressed to find someone who was willing to work with him.

Bugg has been criticized in the past for working with professional songwriters on his songs, especially on his hits like "Lightning Bolt." However, Bugg defended his actions in an interview with the Daily Star saying, “I’m still very young, and I should soak up what I can learn from people with more experience ... I’m taking it on board, so I can step into writing on my own eventually.”

Bugg hoped to continue his current trend in Nashville, and work with songwriters to better learn the process, but quickly learned that many professionals were not willing to teach as much as instruct. Bugg was shocked and disappointed to learn after he arrived that he was expected to take accept pre-written songs instead of working with the writers on new material.

The 19-year-old singer said to The Star “I thought I’d learn something, as these were the biggest names in songwriting. But they’d got complacent. They were presenting songs they’d already written, not caring what I wanted. I had to say: ‘No mate, let’s get our guitars out and see what happens together.’ It was really disappointing.” Welcome to the industry, Jake.

Bugg has already started recording his untitled sophomore album, which will include a revamped version of his song "Broken," produced by Rick Rubin and featuring Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith.

Bugg will continue collaborating with Rubin on the second half of his album and the two are set to be back in the studio together later this year. They have already recorded a new track for the album titled "Slum Door Sunrise."

We haven't heard too much, but its already clear that the UK folk singer's new album will be more sophisticated than the last. According to NME Bugg said of the latest material, "I've been listening to a lot of Neil Young and Nick Drake and all that kind of stuff, and I think with these new songs you can kind of tell what I've been listening to. I want to emulate the first record - but better." You can't argue with better. Read more about the new album here.

Single "Broken," produced by Rick Rubin, is due out on July 29th.
