Watch Lars Ulrich Testify In Napster Documentary "Downloaded"

Downloaded is a new documentary by Alex Winter. In the film, Winter explores the history of Napster from all sides, sharing perspectives from the RIAA, artists both for and against file sharing, and personal perspectives from many of those involved in the legal battles. We must point out that Alex Winter is the actor who played Bill S. Preston ESQ in the classic '90s Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure movies.

In the clip above, you can watch testimony by Metallica's Lars Ulrich, Roger McGuinn of The Byrds, and then-CEO of Napster, Hank Barry.

In an interview with Billboard, Winter described the dichotomy that still exists in the music industry: Artists need to get their music heard by a wide audience, but still need to make a living. "One thing I did not count on was the level of rage that still exists," he said. "It's kind of shocking to me how many people are just as angry in 2013 as they were in 2001… Clearly, the artist is not getting compensated well enough yet. There's just so much need for better architecture."

In spite of that, the film also shows many supporters and positive experiences brought about by Napster.

Downloaded will be released on Monday July 1 On Demand, including iTunes. It's also receiving a limited theatrical release. Details are available on the film's official Facebook page.
