Trey Anastasio sat down with PBS News Hour
Highlights:
Trey discusses his approach to songwriting and composition as "bringing harmonic elegance to rock and roll" from a background of classical music.
In the early days of Phish, they considered themselves to be a prog-rock band because their songs had such complex and precise arrangements. Only later did they turn to be more of an improvised "jamband."
Phish is coming up on their 30 year anniversary as a band. Trey discussed the community and his relationships with people who have been coming to shows for over a decade although he's never actually met them and doesn't know their names.
Trey loves working with orchestras.
Malcolm Gladwll's Outliers book came up, as Trey discussed the history of Phish playing bars in Burlington, Vermont for many hours as the band built their chops up and became a great live band.
Really interesting stuff. A must watch for any fan of Phish and young musicians who want to learn more about what it takes to become a successful band.
