Zero. Coke Zero. The Colombian division of Coca-Cola has reportedly launched a contest in which fans can win a trip to Antarctica to see Metallica play.
Although it could all be an elaborate hoax, it appears as though Colombian Metallica fans between 18 and 24 years old can enter the contest. No word yet from Metallica’s camp, but the travel dates listed in the contest rules are December 2nd – 15th, 2013, which would line up with Lars Ulrich’s recent claim that “There’s another frontier heading in Metallica’s direction in December.”
If this is true, the occasion will mark the second-ever rock concert in Antarctica’s history.
The first rock concert ever performed in Antarctica took place on July 7, 2007 at British Antarctic Survey’s (BAS) Rothera Research Station, one in a series of Live Earth concerts that were held on the same day in all seven continents. The science team’s indie-rock house band NUNATAK performed as the lone act. NUNATAK’s concert, though performed in front of only 17 people, was broadcast all over the world.
Stay tuned to Zumic for more details as they emerge. We’ll spare you the hackneyed “Trapped Under Ice” jokes, however, and leave you with a video of the last time Lars saw that much snow:
