That Metal Show returned for the first episode of the 13th season this past Saturday. It was a return to New York City, where the show taped the first 4 seasons, and close to home for the 3 hosts - Eddie Trunk, Jim Florentine, and Don Jamieson - all of whom are from New Jersey.

After introductions, the first segment on the show is the Top 5 list, featuring the Top 5 things Gene Simmons has supposedly invented in honor of KISS finally being voted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame:

This was followed by an interview with M. Shadows, lead singer of Avenged Sevenfold. They discussed the latest album, Hail To The King, which was at the top of the Billboard 200 album sales chart, and also some of the social media haters of the band. The second guest, Zakk Wylde, is best known as the lead guitarist for Black Label Society and Ozzy Osbourne. Wylde walked out in a ski mask and with a Black Label brand vegetable plate injected with growth hormones, viagra, and diet pills. They wished Wylde a happy birthday, mariachi style, and then talked music and jokes. Pretty funny moment when they go back to the vault and show an MTV video of when he joined Ozzy's band in 1987:

After lots of great hair jokes, followed by some commercials, M. Shadow talked about the Avenged Sevenfold videogame that's currently in development. He says, it's "a Diablo-esque dungeon crawler" and that the band has been very involved with the creative process.

Zakk Wylde talked about what it's like having kids, and not forcing them to be musicians but exposing them to music and letting them be themselves. M. Shadows has a similar situation with his kids. This was followed with a ranking of Van Halen records from best to worst by Wylde. He chose to put it in chronological order, but said anything with Eddie Van Halen flat out rocks. Well played.

This was followed by a new segment this season, "Put It On The Table" which is like a lightning round of Q&A with the guests. Old segments like "Stump The Trunk" returned as well. There's a very cool moment during Stump The Trunk where Jason Hook gives an audience member his signature Gibson Explorer guitar for stumping ol' Eddie.

The hosts shared some of their favorite albums: Scorpion Child's self-titled debut, Generation Nothing by Metal Church, and Whales and Leeches by Red Fang.

In the final segment, they debated whether Robert Plant or Freddie Mercury was a better singer.
