Toronto mayor and noted controlled substance enthusiast Rob Ford has just declared today, February 6th, Bob Marley Day in Toronto. The holiday falls on the late singer's birthday. Marley was born February 6th 1945 and died in 1981 at age 36. He would have been 69 today.

Rob Ford, who has recently been embroiled in scandal, declared the holiday to celebrate Marley's role as an "influential musician, advocate for human rights and international ambassador of peace."

The mayor did not, however, show up to work to celebrate Bob Marley Day. The Toronto Sun reports that Ford didn't make it in to City Hall today. His press secretary, Amin Massoudi, told the paper, “The mayor is not feeling well today. He has taken the day off.”

Ford has previously expressed his love for Marley through the power of dance. The video, which surfaced in December, shows Ford dancing during a council session to a cover of Marley's "One Love." Joined by the singer and another politician, Ford struts his stuff like Chris Farley at Chippendale's, and ends up covered in sweat. Watch the video above.
