Last month, Wayne Coyne and Steven Drozd of the Flaming Lips joined Miley Cyrus onstage during her concert at the Staples center to perform "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots Pt. 1." Shortly after the bizzare performance, the band invited the pop star to join them in the studio for their remake of The Beatles album, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Cyrus is to be featured on "Lucy and the Sky with Diamonds" and Coyne informed the world of the collaboration by posting photos of Miley and the band recording together in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Judging by Coyne's Instagram photos there was plenty of weed involved and the singer tweeted the following:

The Flaming Lips recently released their cover of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" preceding their New Year's Eve concert in Aspen. The band also teamed up with John Lennon's son, Sean, in February for a performance of the classic Beatles tune on David Letterman.

According to Spin, The Lips haven't released any more information regarding the Beatles cover album but Andrew VanWyngarden of MGMT will also be featured along with Tame Impala.

This isn't the first attempt of a Sgt. Pepper's remake: In the '70s, The Bee Gees and Peter Frampton starred in an unsuccessful film adaptation of the rock album. Hopefully this collaboration will prove to be more enjoyable.

In the meantime, Flaming Lips fans can look forward to the group's release of an edited-down rendition of their 24-hour-long song "7 Skies H3" for Record Store Day. The new release will only run 43 minutes in length, ideal for fans who cannot commit to a full day of music listening.
