The Foo Fighters are at it again. After announcing a show at Washington D.C.’s Black Cat just days before the show date last week, the band has announced a Halloween night show at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. Nashville is the setting of the third episode of Foo Fighters’ HBO series Sonic Highways, as well as the city where they recorded the third track on their upcoming album of the same name.
As this will be the third episode of the HBO series, Foo Fighters have made it a trend to announce a relatively last minute concert in that city. The show involves a screening of that night’s episode followed by a concert from the band. Though, in typical Foo fashion, Foo Fighters tickets have not been easy to come by for these events.
For last week’s show at Washington D.C.’s Black Cat, ticket buyers had to purchase tickets directly from the venue with a valid ID and could not be purchased any other way. For a 6 PM on sale, there was a capacity length line outside the venue by 3:30 PM. While the tickets for the Halloween show were able to be ordered online, they were only available through Ticketmaster’s paperless ticket service. Again a valid ID will be needed to present alongside the ticket for admission to the show.
The Ryman Auditorium announcement Tuesday set a single-day traffic record for its site when the Foo Fighters show was announced. There was similar traffic on Ticketmaster’s site as the event was ruled a sellout after 40 minutes. A ticket price of only $20 also helped drive demand for the 2,362 seat theater.
There could be another five weeks of pop-up shows for the band as there are still five more episodes and cities left for the completion of Sonic Highways. Those cities are Austin, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Seattle and New York. With such musical history across every city, there are numerous places a pop-up show could be held, such as Austin’s Paramount Theatre or New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom. The exact location of each show will likely not be known until the week of that city’s air date for the show, if the current announcement trend continues.
So far Foo Fighters have announced just one date for their actual upcoming tour, August 29 at Wrigley Field. Tickets have already gone on sale and flooded the secondary market. The current average price for the Wrigley Field concert is $317.32 with a get-in price of $156. It’s clear that whether fans have time to prepare or not, Foo Fighters tickets will be in high demand whenever more concerts get announced.
