HOT 97 caught up with rapper and entrepreneur Nelly to discuss his latest ventures, his notorious "Tip Drill" video, and the status of the city of Ferguson. Take a look at the 10 facts we learned about the St. Louis rapper in his EBro In The Morning interview:
1. Nelly established a new record company called RECORDS Records. He had been with Universal for 15 years.
2. Nelly is working on a new deal with music executives Barry Weiss and Ron Perry.
3. The rapper's latest record, "The Fix," is produced by DJ Mustard and samples Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing."
4. When talking about Nelly's controversial "Tip Drill" video, Nelly stated that the infamous credit card scene was NOT his idea, but the idea of a woman named White Chocolate.
5. With the rumored return of BET's Uncut, Nelly stated he will not make a new Uncut video. After the interview, BET revealed that Uncut actually isn't coming back, but it was part of an elaborate hoax to promote the new season of Punk'd which used to be on MTV.
6. The objectification of women in "Tip Drill" was considered demeaning and was protested against by many Spellman College students. Ironically, the school is only two miles from four strip clubs.
7. The St. Louis rapper has been running a scholarship program, connected to his annual Black and White Ball, for 10 years. The program sends two kids to college per year.
8. He also started a separate scholarship program in honor of slain Ferguson teen Mike Brown.
9. Nelly founded a school called E.I. which stands for "ex'treme Institute." Six-hundred kids are currently enrolled.
10. Nelly recently went on tour with TLC and '90s pop group New Kids On The Block. He was inspired by the fact that they sold out two concerts at Madison Square Garden.
