The genre of blues rock has made a comeback over the past few years with bands such as The Black Keys and Jack White leading the way. Benjamin Booker is a new musician on the scene, but he's definitely one to keep an eye on.
Today, Booker released his self-titled debut record. The album hits you right in the heart with unfiltered, raw energy. The distorted guitar riffs and the hard-hitting organ bring you back to when records would make you move, not just nod your head to monotonous bass drops.
It is clear in the way the musician cries out every word that he held nothing back in this record. Booker's wild guitar licks and the thundering drums create a raucous sound throughout the album, especially during the jam midway through "Have You Seen My Son." Amidst the rocking tunes, occasionally the record surprises you with a slower song led by Booker's soulful croon. The young New Orleans singer-songwriter is only beginning his music career and I'm curious to see what he produces next.
