The “boom bap” will never die! That’s if legendary DJ Premier can help it. For over 20 years he has proven that the golden era hip hop sound will remain present within the culture.
Bringing in fresh heat for the start of the hot season, Jakk Frost and DJ Premier dropped fire on us with this new track, “Dope Boy Talk,” on June 1st. This track is truly an ode to that real gritty gangsta hip hop. It’s a refreshing occurrence to see that the Carhartt coat and Timbaland boot music is still being made.
Jakk Frost is no rookie either, he’s been in this hip hop game for over a decade and is coming hard in 2015. What’s great about this track is that in between the coke lines, steal your girl braggadocios, and lyrical murderous revenge plots, Jakk Frost manages to make modern references including slick lines like, “The shotgun slugs break ankles like Curry did Chris Paul,” yikes! The Beard Gang General does a dope job keeping the essence of nostalgia too, by throwing out some classic Schoolly D word play in a bar.
