"hard rain" - Lykke Li [YouTube Music Video]

Swedish indie-pop singer Lykke Li has released a beautifully dramatic music video for her single "hard rain." Check it out above on YouTube.

The video, captioned "HARD RAIN - A LOVE STORY," follows the intimate encounters of a loving yet volatile young couple as they make out in watery environments: in a shower, in a pool under the rain, and even underwater. They are also shown buying a fish together, continuing the water metaphor that Li already makes clear in her lyrics: "If you like the feeling of hard rain falling / I have a seafull, I can give you an ocean."

Like the couple, the video itself is quite cinematic, with dramatic neon lighting that sets the mood for the couple's turbulent ups and downs.  In the end, they are shown fighting and wrestling on the side of the road, becoming angry at each other for unexplained reasons. The drama is enhanced by the video's sound effects.  The song does not begin until 30 seconds in, and in its place is the building sound of rain falling.
