Last week, Benjamin Booker stopped by KEXP to play a short set and answer a few questions about his upcoming self-titled album. The New Orleans-based artist is currently touring with The District and opened for Jack White earlier this year. His debut album will be released August 19th, 2014.

Booker's music is filled to the brim with raw emotion and passion. This sometimes leads his style to be a little chaotic, but his talent overpowers that. ATO Records must have felt the same way because, as Booker mentions in the interview, they signed him the first time they saw him play.

One cannot deny the energy he brings to each song, crying out his lyrics with unrestrained power. Between songs, Booker talks about Jack White as an influence and how he used to take notes while watching White perform. While the two artists are stylistically similar, Booker definitely has his own sound.

The New Orleans-based musician also spoke about recording his first album and how they only spent six days working on it. Booker claimed that they simply played the songs as they would live. If the album resembles Booker's performance on KEXP, it should be an exciting debut album.

You can preorder his album on iTunes, Amazon, and his official website.
