DJ Statik Selektah officially dropped his What Goes Around album this week, and today he's followed it up with the music video to the track "Carry On" featuring Joey Bada$$ and Freddie Gibbs. Watch above, via YouTube.
The video is a throwback to classic '90s New York City hip hop, with a boom-bap drum sample, jazzy melodies, and true turntablism. The sample in the hook, "carry on tradition," is in full effect as we see Statik Selektah doing his thing with the two MCs. The line is a sample from AZ's verse on "Life's A Bitch" from Nas' seminal album, Illmatic. Gibbs references another Nas song in his verse here, saying "A slave to my rap page" - which is reminiscent of another Nas banger, "Made You Look," where he says "you're a slave to a page in my rhyme book" repeatedly in the hook.
