Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor and producer Atticus Ross have been asked by director David Fincher to create the music for Fincher's upcoming film, Gone Girl. Above, you can listen to four tracks from the soundtrack.

"Sugar Storm" is a xylophone-driven piece joined with streaming waves of synthesizer effects. "Background Noise" combines reflective piano layered on atmospheric sounds, while "The Way He Looks At Me" is very glitchy and aggressive in terms of noises that arise throughout the track. The final track, "Just Like You," features piano playing that feels like one is in a dream. All the tracks are hauntingly beautiful and should make for another brilliant piece of work from Trent and Atticus.

Gone Girl is the third soundtrack Reznor and Ross have worked on for the director. Their other two collaborations were The Social Network and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Trent Reznor and David Fincher described how they wanted the music to sound:

Reznor: David Fincher said, "Think about the really terrible music you hear in massage parlors... The way that it artificially tries to make you feel like everything's OK. And then imagine that sound starting to curdle and unravel."
David Fincher: I said a spa, not a massage parlor! I was listening to that calming, placating music and thought, we need to tap into this. The movie is about the facade of the good neighbor, the good Christian, the good wife. So the notion was to start with music that's attempting to give you a hug.

The Gone Girl soundtrack is scheduled for release on September 30, and is available for pre-order through the NIN Store. The film will be out October 3.
