Last month, prolific alt-country musician Ryan Adams released 1984, the first record of his PAX-AM Singles Series. He recently put out volume 2 from the set. Listen to "Jacksonville" above.
"Jacksonville" is a melancholy tune, with Ryan Adams singing lines like, "you have gone missing from my life," over a downtrodden guitar and piano. The chorus is simple and quite effective, as Adams showcases deep emotion over the repeated lines of "Oh Jacksonville."
The single has two B-sides, "I Keep Running" and "Walkedypants." The first is more upbeat than "Jacksonville," with a rollicking guitar and piano with Adams singing the melodic and catchy chorus, "I'm faster than the pain running through my veins." The second, "Walkedypants," is an exceedingly silly song. Ryan changes his vocal style to a parody of the blues as he sings with a comically exaggerated howl. The lyrics are full of non sequiturs and it's an amusing and unexpected way to end the record.
