Metallica's Friday performance ended their weeklong residency on The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson, and it also marked the end of the late night host's tenure on the program.

For Ferguson's send-off, the metal legends pulled out "Sad But True" from 1991's Black Album. The performance, like all their performances this week, was spot-on, but it was a bittersweet moment for Ferguson's fans. After the song, Craig went over to the band to say goodnight, and James Hetfield handed off his guitar to the host. It was a fitting end to Craig Ferguson's almost 10-year run.

Lars Ulrich spoke to Rolling Stone when the band announced their residency on the show:

What better way to celebrate Craig's awesome tenure at CBS than to come and shake the rafters for a whole week. Nothing to sell, nothing to promote (except a reissue DVD)...purely hanging at Craig's personal request. Bring it!

The band's special edition reissue of Some Kind of Monster comes out on November 24th. Pick it up on Amazon (DVD, Blu-ray). Metallica are also releasing a 12" "Lords Of Summer" single for Record Store Day's Black Friday event. Get more details at RSD's official website.
