Today is the day Sleater-Kinney fans have anxiously been waiting for. After the band's announced hiatus in 2006 and members getting involved with other projects, it looked like Sleater-Kinney's days as a band might be done for good. Carrie Brownstein said in 2008 that the band would get back together only if there was more of a story to tell and music to play, and thankfully there was. Above, you can listen to Sleater-Kinney's eighth studio album, No Cities to Love, a week before its official release.

No Cities to Love is a return to the group's punk rock form, sounding like the band never left us. Corin Tucker (vocals and guitar), Carrie Brownstein (guitar and vocals), and Janet Weiss (drums) bring the riot grrrl attitude to these songs. Infectious grooves and thunderous drumming supply the backbone to songs like "Price Tag," "A New Wave," and "No Anthems." Vocals from Carrie and Corin bring a no nonsense attitude in songs "Fangless," "Surface Envy," and "Gimme Love."

Many songs on No Cities to Love are dominated with swirling, distortion drenched guitars. Hard-hitting "Surface Envy" bathes in this guitar sound while providing staccato verses and a sing-along chorus. The title track, "No Cities To Love," is highlighted by Corin and Carrie's joint vocals and angular riffs. "Fangless" and "A New Wave" benefit with dance-along guitars and sprinkles of psychedelic effects. Another highlight, "Bury Our Friends," has a catchy hook and rocks hard.

Every song on No Cities to Love follow each other with continued energy and aggression. The ten track album clocks in at just over 32 minutes, and doesn't hesitate to hit the listener over the head with a brand of edgy indie rock that has made Sleater-Kinney legends in the genre. It's no surprise that many of their upcoming shows are sold out, as fans have been waiting a long time for new material and another opportunity to see the trio perform live.

No Cities to Love is out January 20th, 2015 on Sub Pop. You can pre-order it via Amazon (Vinyl, CD, MP3) and iTunes.
