The third single off Toro Y Moi's upcoming album, What For?, is a nod to vintage psychedelic pop rock. Following the slow disco of "Buffalo" and the upbeat "Empty Nesters," Chaz Bundick delivers a catchy tune titled "Run Baby Run."
In terms of production, this is the most stripped-down we've heard from Toro Y Moi. Electronic influences are almost completely void as the guitar-driven song dives in to the tripped out style of Revolver-era Beatles and modern groups like Tame Impala. It's another step away from the chillwave beats he was making at the beginning of the decade, and gives us an even better idea of what to expect from the remainder of the new LP.
What For? comes out April 7, 2015. You can pre-order the album on Amazon (Vinyl, MP3).
