Los Angeles group Dawes have announced that they will be releasing a new album titled All Your Favorite Bands that will be released on June 2. They have shared the lead track from that album, including an accompanying video. Watch and listen to the tune "Things Happen" above via YouTube.

Musically, "Things Happen" is a mellow number with infectious melodies and soaring choruses. Frontman Taylor Goldsmith's voice is crisp and shines with emotion, particularly when singing, "Things happen, that's all they ever do."

In an email with NPR, Goldsmith explained the use of street performers in the video:

I think by making the video about street performers, which is a pastime that's at once fascinating and mysterious but also can be perceived as unglamorous or dismal, it really helps to illustrate the shifting sentiments of the song. How one guy can seem truly miserable in dealing with his current lot in life while others can take that same situation and figure out a way to find joy and acceptance in it?

Life can be difficult for a musician trying to busk on the streets of Los Angeles, as evidenced by the clips main character. Dressed as a Beatles impersonator (circa Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band), he competes with a Charlie Chaplin, Elvis, and a not so attractive Marilyn Monroe. It isn't until he returns home to a pleasant surprise that lifts his spirits and reminds him that "things happen."

In a press release, Goldsmith also talked about the album's title, All Your Favorite Bands:

The main line of the title track is 'And may all your favorite bands stay together.' I know that my favorite bands are a really deep part of who I am. They help define me, they help represent me, they trigger certain emotional memories, and they stand for the ideals and lifestyle that I will always hope to achieve. And I don't mean rock and roll fantasies, but rather concepts like freedom and enlightenment. I would love for someone wishing me well to put it in the terms of 'may all your favorite bands stay together.' That would be a real friend. That person would know what truly matters. To me, the statement of All Your Favorite Bands immediately gets down to a highly personal and singular part of anybody in a way that few other concepts can. So that's why we named our record after that song.

All Your Favorite Bands is currently available for pre-order on Amazon (MP3).
