The Rolling Stones are getting ready to embark on a North American tour in May dubbed the Zip Code Tour. The shows are in conjunction with their release of a remastered version of their 1971 album Sticky Fingers which will include previously unreleased bonus tracks. Today, they have shared one of those tracks, an alternate studio version of "Can't You Hear Me Knocking." Listen above.
This take is a raw version, and a special taste of how much the song evolved into the finished version. The lack of lyrics suggest that maybe they weren't written yet. Most of the song is a heady rock jam with Keith Richards laying down a sweet solo while Mick Taylor provides a steady rhythm. The song cuts short, and there is no extended saxophone solo from the late Bobby Keys. Nonetheless, this recording is a treasure that gives us fans an insight of the tune's creative process.
The accompanying video shows a Sticky Fingers album spinning on a record player while faint images of the band, moon, and other random clips are shown.
