There’s a lot of music out there one could listen to, but there are very few artists that can actually engage you. It was in the winter time when I went to see a friend perform at Friends and Lovers in Brooklyn. One of the last acts of the night managed to get all of my wandering attention into focus. The artist was ScienZe, part of the duo Divine ScienZe with producer King I Divine. Together they produce masterpieces.

This past Tuesday, ScienZe released a track Called “South Bronx” with producer ShunGu, which will be on his upcoming solo project, A Traveling Man 3. ShunGu does his thing on this beat with that old school vibe. In the song, he creates an abstract vision with words to depict the days when hip hop began in the South Bronx.

I managed to get in touch with the Brooklyn native and this is what he had to say: “With this song I was painting a picture to convey the beauty of a gathering for hip hop, the culture, good people, and to celebrate life.” We’re diggin’ the science, ScienZe.

There are many elements that make up hip hop culture and ScienZe was able to remind us that it’s not just about rhymes or lyrics. He raps, “Late night up in the park / All I see is crescent moons / Flat tops all sharp, word / The shawties walk how they walk.” There’s an authenticity about atmosphere that we sometimes overlook. This ode to hip hop is something we can all appreciate.

He’ll be releasing A Traveling Man 3 EP on June 23, 2015. Mark it in your calendar, because it will only be available for 24 hours. You can still head over to scienzeclass.com to pick up the digital download of A Traveling Man 2.
