With a history of drug and alcohol abuse and a stint in rehab amidst a career that seemed to skyrocket over night, Macklemore has seen his fair share of ups and downs. Thankfully, the latest news from Macklemore is definitely more on the cheerful side: He had a baby daughter this year.

Teaming up with producer Ryan Lewis and pop sensation Ed Sheeran, Macklemore has just released a new single, "Growing Up (Sloane's Song)." The track was written before the birth of his daughter, Sloane Ava Simone Haggerty. In an interview with MTV, Macklemore said, "It's one of my favorite songs I've ever written. It's deeply personal and I'm proud of it."

From the very first line of "They say boys don't cry / But your dad has shed a lot of tears," the song feels deeply intimate. With a simple drum beat, sporadic keyboard, and mild guitar strokes, Macklemore gives touching advice to his child while still addressing the fact that he feels he has a lot of growing up to do, too. Sheeran holds down the chorus in his signature croon, with trumpets and choir-like accompanying vocals in the background.

You can find a free download of the single on Macklemore's website, in addition to his open letter about growing up and being a dad:

Macklemore's latest album, The Heist, is available on Amazon (Vinyl, CD, MP3).
