Recently, we got a first taste of what will be on the Grateful Dead's upcoming CD box set titled 30 Trips Around the Sun: The Definitive Years (1965-1995). Above, you can listen to a second taste, this stellar live version of "Uncle John's Band" from a 1974 performance in France.

On this night, "Uncle John's Band" served as the night's first set opener, a rarity in Grateful Dead history. The band sounds tight, and the audio is crisp. Midway into the song, Jerry Garcia and the boys settle into a flowing jam with Garcia's uplifting guitar solo leading the charge. Also worth noting is the band was touring with their Wall of Sound speaker system during this time.

The studio version of "Uncle John's Band" was included on the band's classic 1970 album, Workingman's Dead.

Previously, the band shared a rare studio cut of "Caution (Do Not Stop on Tracks)."

You can purchase the four CD set on Amazon (CD, MP3).

Additionally, members of the Grateful Dead have 2015 tour dates coming up in two separate bands: Phil & Friends and Dead & Company.
