If you've ever wondered what it was like to be in the recording studio in '65 and '66 while the great Bob Dylan was laying down songs, perhaps the track above will give you an idea. Listen to the first take of "Just Like a Woman," which will be included on The Cutting Edgen 1965-1966, an upcoming collection of outtakes and alternate versions.
Upon listening, we hear that Dylan applied some noticeable changes. It keeps the same relaxed groove as the Blonde on Blonde studio version. Electric guitar riffs and organ playing underneath are a bit more pronounced, and the lyrics are slightly different. The song sort of falls apart towards the end when we hear Dylan cough and laugh, adding a sense of humor to this version. It also lacks the signature repeated melodic part after he sings, "... just like a little girl."
Make sure you check out other songs that have been shared from the release, including "Visions of Johanna," "Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again," "Sitting On A Barbed Wire Fence," "Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window?," and "It Takes a Lot to Laugh It Takes a Train to Cry."
The Cutting Edge 1965-1966 will be released on November 6, 2015. Deluxe box sets are available on Bob Dylan's website. You can also pick up the Best Of... 2 CD version on Amazon (CD, MP3).
