Lissie “Hero” Lyrics

Who knows what you’ll find when you look inside?
Haunted beach, roll the dice
The zombies in the corner aren’t amused
Play the part of the blushing bride
Tame the horse and take it for a ride
This thread of consolation comes loose

I could’ve been a hero, I could’ve been a zero
Could’ve been all these things
I could’ve been nothing, I could’ve been bluffing
Could’ve been all these things
And if I am unable, tell him that I’ll try
But underneath the table
I will spin the wheel and hope for gold

I’ve seen the road and I’ve seen it hide
Out of view, cloaked by night
I want my forty acres in the sun
Bitter winds come in from the north
My spirit dims, but I feel the force
“No longer in my hands,” I say to you

I could’ve been a hero, I could’ve been a zero
Could’ve been all these things
I could’ve been nothing, I could’ve had something
Could’ve been all these things
And if I am unable, tell him that I’ll try
But underneath the table
I will spin the wheel and hope for gold
Oh, and where it stops, nobody knows

Could’ve been, would’ve been, should’ve should’ve been
Could’ve been, would’ve been
Would’ve been, should’ve been, I could’ve been

I could’ve been a hero, I could’ve been a zero
Could’ve been all these things
I could’ve been nothing, I could’ve been something
Could’ve been all these things
And if I am unable, tell him that I’ll try
Underneath the table
Hope for gold
Where it stops, nobody knows

Songwriter Lissie has shared an official music video for “Hero,” the first single from her upcoming album, My Wild West. Watch it above.

In an interview with Drowned In Sound, Lissie spoke about the music video:

I was introduced to Talain Rayne through mutual friends and just gave him the song and full creative license to create something special! I was so pleased and excited when he sent me this wonderfully bizarre & beautiful video! It represents the song well and I’m thrilled for people to see it!

She also shared some insight about the song:

“Hero” is one of those rare songs that came to me all at once. I was at my old house in Ojai, California one evening just getting some things done around the place and it poured out of me! I’d been thinking about duality, Schrödinger’s cat, parallel realities and just this general idea of being simultaneously a huge success and failure and what I want my life to look like. Shortly after I bought a farm in NE Iowa, and between tours I am living there!

My Wild West is set for a February 12, 2016 release. Pick it up on Lissie’s online webstore.
