Dream Theater “The Gift of Music” Lyrics

Far in the distant future
Beyond the pages of our time
Cold blooded wicked tyrants
Threaten the freedom of mankind

Corruption, lust, and greed, defy the new nobility
Changing the course of history
Across the vast North Empire
Most people struggle to survive

Living a meek existence
Where they’re secludedly oppressed
We are living day to day
Forced to bear the lion’s share

People just don’t have the time for music any more
And no one seems to care
My friends have seen the chosen one
A quest for freedom has begun
He will be the answer to our prayers

There walks a god among us
Who’s seen the writing on the wall
He is the revolution
He’ll be the one to save us all

My brother Gabriel, is all the hope we need
Shining like a beacon in the night
Should give Ravenskill a reason to believe
Music is the gift he brings
The songbirds stops to listen when he sings

Prog rockers Dream Theater have shared an official music video for “The Gift of Music,” the first single from their studio double-album, The Astonishing. Watch it above, via Dream Theater’s YouTube.

Guitarist John Petrucci spoke with Rolling Stone about working on the video with director Wes Teshome:

It was great working with director Wes Teshome on our latest video for “The Gift of Music.” While we were looking to keep the emphasis on performance, we wanted to be sure that the vibe was unique and special so we found a really interesting location to film in New Jersey that had the perfect atmosphere. By blending in some digital animation we were also able to covey some of the concept from The Astonishing as well. We think it demonstrates the perfect balance of story and performance.

The Astonishing is available on Amazon. You can also stream the full album for free and read our review here on Zumic.
