Folk rock group The Avett Brothers have released their latest live album, Live Vol. Four. This follows the previous releases of Live at the Double Door Inn (2002), Live, Vol. 2 (2005), and Live, Volume 3 (2010).
The 14-track album was recorded at the band's 2014 New Year's Eve concert in Raleigh, NC at PNC Arena. In a press release, Seth Avett described playing to the audience on that night:
The energy of this show is undeniably positive and uniquely North Carolinian... I often had to remind myself that we were singing to the audience and not the other way around... there’s nothing like celebrating in an arena filled with friends and neighbors.
Live Vol. Four is a fun album in the sense that you can hear, and almost feel, the band's energy through the night. It's not your typical live album, as there are some backstage bits mixed in, beginning with the intro discussion with Father Time. The band played familiar songs like 2009's "Ten Thousand Words," featuring Bonnie Avett (Seth and Scott's sister) on vocals.
After a celebratory "Auld Lang Syne," the group perform a smooth, rockin' version of Thin Lizzy's "The Boys Are Back In Town." The tempo stays upbeat with "Slight Figure Of Speech" that includes a fantastic drum solo midway in. A piano led version of "I And Love And You" finds the crowd singing along. An uplifting "Happy Trails" closes out the album and a concert that I'm sure fans won't soon forget.
In addition to the songs mentioned above and busting out two new tracks, "Satan Pulls The Strings" and "Rejects in the Attic," other highlights include "Laundry Room," "Kick Drum Heart," "Another Is Waiting," and "Talk On Indolence."

The band will be ringing in 2016 at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex in North Carolina. They've also announced 2016 tour dates for North America from early April into mid-June.
