Soul legend Mavis Staples is getting set to release a new album titled Livin' On A High Note this year. In anticipation of the LP, the singer has shared the single "High Note," which you can listen to above.

The song was written by Valerie June, and the relaxed rhythm is a perfect accompaniment for Staples' soulful vocals. Acoustic strumming and electric guitar riffs provide an easy rockin' feeling while background harmonies fill out the vocals.

The new album was produced by M. Ward, which is a change from her two previous albums, 2013's One True Vine and 2010's You Are Not Alone, which were produced by Jeff Tweedy of Wilco. The release also features songs written for Staples by Benjamin Booker, Ben Harper, Aloe Blacc, Nick Cave, The Head and the Heart, tUnE-yArds, M. Ward, Justin Vernon, Neko Case, and Son Little.

In related news, a new Mavis Staples documentary titled Mavis! will air on HBO on February 29, 2016.

Pick up Livin' On A High Note on Amazon. It's set for a February 19, 2016 release.
