A historic hip hop moment has occured!

On Tuesday, January 12, MMG's own Wale became the very first rapper to perform at the State of the Union address. This also marks the first time the annual event included a "pre-show." Prior to President Obama's eighth & final State of the Union speech, the D.C rapper performed a medley of songs and rocked his hometown.

Wale is not a stranger to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. In July of last year, First Lady Michelle Obama invited him to perform as a part of her "Beating the Odds Summit" which aims to help college-bound kids. Wale now joins the short list of rappers who were invited to the White House along with Jay Z, Eazy-E, Common, P. Diddy, Queen Latifah, and recently Kendrick Lamar. Four of those rappers were invited by President Obama, and we definitely know how that the POTUS loves hip hop!

Warmly introduced by Terrence Jenkins, Wale took stage and performed his 2009 debut song, "Chillin," "LoveHate Thing," and "The White Shoes." At the very end of the performance, he announced, "My fifth album, Shine, 2016. Shine on." Stay posted on Zumic for more information about the album.
