“Sorceress” – Opeth [YouTube Lyric Video]

Opeth “Sorceress” Lyrics

I am a sinner
And I worship evil
Blood is thinner
But you will never know

Can you confess
That you thrive in chaos
You’re a sorceress
And your eye is on the lost
But you’re dying
It’s in your eyes

You’re a charlatan
You get everything you wish
You’re a harlot
Carry poison in your kiss

Beg Forgiveness
With a dagger in your hand
Sow your death seed
And reap the dying lands

But you’re crying
It’s only vice

Empty vessel
Drained of hope
And none the lesser at the end of
A rope
Have you ever hated like I?
Know I still awaited the absence of lies

Watch your eager tongue
Attack me from behind

Riddle whispers
Bleak futile control
Like a twin sister
Adapting to a role

You’re a murderer
Bloodlust increase
You’re a harvester
Come close to spread disease

And you’re hiding
I hear you cry

Swedish metal group Opeth have shared a lyric video for “Sorceress,” the title track to their upcoming twelfth studio album. Watch it above, courtesy of the band’s YouTube.

In a telephone interview with Rolling Stone, vocalist and guitarist Mikael Åkerfeldt spoke about the lyrics featured on the new LP:

I’m not talking about specific people in my past, girlfriends or ex-wives or anything like that. I’ve struggled a little bit in my relationships these last couple of years, and that has inspired me, I think, to write… Not that I deliberately sat down trying to write these types of lyrics. That’s literally what came out when I started trying to write; it’s only in retrospect that I kind of understood what it’s about.

I was trying to draw inspiration from the negative aspects of love: the jealousy, the mindfucks, the paranoia and everything that comes with what’s ultimately a beautiful feeling. It’s something that I value extremely highly in my life, but it really can have a damaging effect on you, which it did on me.

Sorceress is scheduled to be released on September 30, 2016 via Moderbolaget Records. Pick it up on Amazon.
