“Lay My Lily Down” – Bob Weir [YouTube Audio Single]

LYRICS

Bob Weir “Lay My Lily Down” Lyrics

Dig a hole, dig a hole in the meadow
Dig a hole in the cold, cold ground
Dig a hole, dig a hole in the meadow
To lay my Lily down
Lay my Lily down

Well the first time I saw my new-born girl
She was pulling on her momma’s hair
The sun coming through the window
I’d have known her anywhere

Dig a hole, dig a hole in the meadow
Dig a hole in the cold, cold ground
Dig a hole, dig a hole in the meadow
To lay my Lily down
Lay my Lily down

Wanna lay my Lily down
Lay my Lily down

Wake up, wake up my sleeping child
Come learn to laugh at hell
‘Cause the Pharoah fire in your daddy’s blood
Runs in your veins as well

Dig a hole, dig a hole in the meadow
Dig a hole in the cold, cold ground
Dig a hole, dig a hole in the meadow
To lay my Lily down
Lay my Lily down

The last time I saw lil Lily
She was staring at the windswept sea
With two pearl-handled pistols
And a banjo on her knee

Dig a hole, dig a hole in the meadow
Dig a hole in the cold, cold ground
Dig a hole, dig a hole in the meadow
Lay my Lily down

Dig a hole, dig a hole in the meadow
Dig a hole in the cold, cold ground
Dig a hole, dig a hole in the meadow
Lay my Lily down
Lay my Lily down
Lay my Lily down
Lay my Lily down
Oh, lay my Lily down

Grateful Dead founding member Bob Weir has shared a third single from his upcoming solo album, Blue Mountain, which was recorded with The National. Listen to “Lay My Lily Down” above, courtesy of Weir’s YouTube.

Written with lyricist Josh Ritter and producer Josh Kaufman, the song has a haunting feel to it supported by strong percussion and acoustic picking. The vibe matches the chorus’s dark lyrics as Weir sings, “Dig a hole, dig a hole in the meadow, Dig a hole in the cold, cold ground, Dig a hole, dig a hole in the meadow, To lay my Lily down.”

Blue Mountain is scheduled to be released on September 30, 2016. Pick it up on Amazon. Other songs Bob has shared from the upcoming album are “Only a River” and “Gonesville.”

Weir has also announced 2016 North American Campfire Tour dates that will be in support of the upcoming LP.
