Yesterday, PETA released a new animated advertisement that is sure to attract the attention of music fans. Watch the video above.
The ad features a wily and shirtless Iggy Pop who performs a series of heroic deeds to protect vulnerable animals against the efforts of a villainously-clad suspect. The quirky narrative unfolds to the tune of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds’ “Breathless.” The song, originally released on 2004’s The Lyre of Orpheus, is bright and uplifting while preaching environmental consciousness and animal rights.
The video also emphasizes Pop’s advocacy and active role in animal rights activism. This is nothing new for the former Stooges frontman, who worked previously with PETA to stop recurring animal abuse in a medical training course at his alma mater, the University of Michigan, and spoke out against the slaughtering of baby seals in Norway.
While Pop’s notorious on-stage demeanor doesn’t necessarily suggest him to be an outwardly sensitive individual, the video shows him snuggling endearingly with his dog, who fantasizes about his owner’s benevolent actions towards animals. PETA’s message is, “Be the person your dog thinks you are.”
