San Francisco trio Primus has shared the first single from their upcoming album, The Desaturating Seven. Listen to "The Seven" above, courtesy of the band's YouTube.

Les Claypool's thumping bass and unique vocal delivery make the song feel like a familiar Primus track. There is also a hint of King Crimson-esque prog rock. Les told Rolling Stone that the British art-rockers have been an influence on the band.

In the same interview, Claypool shared that The Desaturating Seven is inspired by Ul de Rico's 1978 book 'The Rainbow Goblins.' He shared some insight on how the project came about:

I remember being incredibly impressed with the artwork and the storyline and the content and the message, and I thought, "Wow, this would make a great piece of music..." As I'm getting older, I'm realizing I need to start knocking some of these things off my list. So we did the Willy Wonka soundtrack a couple years back, and this was a project I wanted to do.

The Desaturating Seven is scheduled to be released on September 29, 2017, and will be the band's newest original material since 2011's Green Naugahyde. Pick it up on Amazon.

In related news, the band has added North America tour dates to their 2017 schedule. For more, check out the Primus Zumic artist page.
