Today The Killers announced the release of a greatest hits album, entitled Direct Hits and scheduled for release on November 11th. The album, which commemorates the band's tenth anniversary, will feature two brand new songs, as well as a demo version of "Mr. Brightside" and a Calvin Harris remix of "When You Were Young." "Shot at the Night," produced by M83 frontman Anthony Gonzalez, is one of the new tracks.

As both The Killers and M83 are heavily influenced by the sounds of the '80s, this pairing makes perfect sense. Though it was apparently set up by The Killers' record label, guitarist Dave Keuning said in an interview with Radio.com that the collaboration was "mutual" and "something we finally agreed with our label on.”

Musically, Gonzalez helps Brandon Flowers reign in his Springsteen shtick without losing any of its bombast -- in a nutshell "Shot at the Night" sounds like a lost collaboration between The Boss and Tears for Fears. Synthy, overblown and full of moments that invite chest-beating, this is The Killers at their finest.
