12 Years a Slave, a film starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, is currently generating Oscar buzz across the country. Though it opened on October 18th, its soundtrack was just released today. Stream it in full above.

As denoted by its additional Music from and Inspired by the Motion Picture label, this album contains a great deal of content that isn't in the film. Pieces of Hans Zimmer's original score appear, but the majority of the 12 Years a Slave soundtrack is made up of songs by modern artists that wouldn't have necessarily fit the film's antebellum setting.

That being said, it's interesting to hear popular artists like John Legend, Alicia Keys and Chris Cornell tackle the topic of slavery, whether through reinterpretations of very old songs like Legend's "Roll Jordan Roll," or new songs inspired by the film's plot such as Keys' "Queen of the Field (Patsey's Song)."

Stream all 16 tracks above, buy the album on iTunes, and be sure to catch 12 Years a Slave in theaters.
