Released on August 17th 1959, Miles Davis' Kind of Blue is widely recognized as one of the most important jazz records ever produced. The impeccable groove of the album was unparalleled at the time, and the record's influence is still heard in music today.

The songs on the record were written by Davis, with co-writing credit given to pianist Bill Evans on "Blue in Green" and "Flamenco Sketches." Personnel on the album includes Julian "Cannonball" Adderley on alto saxophone, except on "Blue in Green," Paul Chambers on double bass, Jimmy Cobb on drums, the remarkable John Coltrane on tenor sax, Bill Evans on piano (except "Freddie Freeloader," on which Wynton Kelly played).
