Previously, we shared and "Lost Boys and Girls Club" and "Rimbaud Eyes" from Dum Dum Girls' upcoming Too True LP, and today the full album is available to stream via Spotify. Check it out above.

Overall, Too True is a very dark listen that evokes the sounds of post-punk and the Madchester scene of the early '90s. Drums are gated, guitars are heavily chorused, and everything sounds huge without overpowering the songs' foreboding qualities. Produced by longtime collaborator Richard Gottehrer, as well as Sune Rose Wagner of The Raveonettes, Too True's strength is its well-defined, consistent sound. Dum Dum Girls never get distracted with ventures into other genres, and for an album that just barely surpasses the 30 minute mark, that's probably a good thing.

All of this isn't to say that all of Too True sounds the same, though. A whole range of moods are conveyed over the course of the album, from the breakneck drumbeats that open "Cult of Love" to the subtle, melancholy vocoder harmonies during the dying moments of "Trouble is My Name." Credit frontwoman Dee Dee Penny, whose lyrics always perfectly reflect the emotions inherent in her band's music. In fact, Too True seems best summed up by Penny's line in "Cult of Love": "Why be good? Be beautiful and sad, it's all you've ever had." After listening to the album, beauty and sadness don't seem like such a bad combination of traits to possess.
