St. Vincent, a.k.a. Annie Clark, has made her 2014 self-titled album available for free streaming a week before it's officially set to be released. Listen above.

The New York City resident and Oklahoma native has become one of the most talked about artists in the indie pop world since her collaboration with David Byrne, Love This Giant, in 2012. This self-titled album is an interesting mix of pop, rock, punk, funk, and hip-hop grooves. This is a great example of one might call "post-rock" because it's essentially a rock record that intentionally avoids old rock clichés like guitar solos in favor of melodic hooks of a more electronic flair.

In a press release, St. Vincent said, "I knew the groove needed to be paramount... I wanted to make a party record you could play at a funeral." Rolling Stone reports that the St. Vincent album was recorded in Dallas, Texas with Dap-Kings drummer Homer Steinweiss and Midlake percussionist McKenzie Smith. The producer is John Congleton, who also produced Love This Giant as well as St. Vincent's previous 2 albums: Strange Mercy and Actor.

St. Vincent's voice is the center of these songs. For the most part, it comes through cleanly and organically - although there are moments of distortion and sonic bending that keep things interesting and varied. The sounds range from ultra futuristic to ultra classical, with harpsichord and that clean vocal bringing things back from the electronic and experimental sounds.
