Four Tet & Terror Danjah "Killer"

Four Tet's had a busy few weeks, releasing a DJ mix, an Ellie Goulding remix, a collaborative track with Jamie xx, and a Neneh Cherry album that he produced. He doesn't show any signs of slowing up though, as he just shared a pair of tracks from a new collaborative 12" with grime veteran Terror Danjah today. Take a listen to the self-descriptive "Killer" (above) and "Nasty" (below).

Four Tet & Terror Danjah "Nasty"

True to their names, as well as Danjah's legacy, both tracks are gritty, raw blends of classic grime and Four Tet's post-dubstep clangor. Of the two, "Nasty" is a little more immediatly satisfying, and "Killer" is more of an atmospheric slow-burner. The former begins with chopped up electric guitar stabs and a swirling vocal sample, before a busy beat and gargantuan synth bass sweep the track into a very danceable realm. "Killer" relies on a more standard grime beat (the type you'd expect to find Dizzee Rascal or Wiley rapping over), and more subdued bass that eventually gives way to a catchy synth melody. It's some of the most exciting dance music we've heard all year, perfectly blending eras and genres, and not sacrificing a shred of either artists' unique appeal.

Four Tet and Terror Danjah's collaborative 12" will be released later this year on Tet's Text label. Stay tuned for more details as they arise, and revist some of Four Tet's recent output right here on Zumic.
