Meshell Ndegeocello performed Nick Drake's "Pink Moon" in the studio and talked about the legacy of the singer-songwriter who committed suicide at the age of 26 in 1974. In her words:

"Pink Moon" I love. And I love Nick Drake, and there’s something haunting about him and the song and just it’s circular motion is entrancing to me. It’s just a song I like to play. No other reason. Plus it’s fascinating, he had so much going for him and he was about to experience some great fame and then he just outed himself so I guess it fascinates me what could propel a person to do that. That must’ve been an intense sadness.

The performance is beautiful. There are shades of the folk rock that Drake had seemingly perfected, as well as the soulful funk that Meshell Ndegeocello and her band bring. There's also a major jazz feel here, with keyboards, acoustic guitar, and drums playing off one another and Meshell's gorgeous bass playing. Things start simply, but unfold and blossom over the course of the 3+ minutes. This is in a style of transcendent rock fusion that brings to mind masters like Jimi Hendrix and Van Morrison.
