If you like laid back rock and roll with a deep groove, you're gonna love this band Los Colognes. The Chicago by way of Nashville group takes great inspiration from the work of J.J. Cale, the iconic singer / songwriter / guitar player / producer who passed away in 2013.
After the second song, "Golden Dragon," host Greg Vandy asks the band about how they get that J.J. Cale sound. We take slight exception with him calling the sound "singular" because Mark Knofler and Dire Straits were also able to recreate that signature sound, but it's certainly rare to hear bands who can achieve that combination of rock, jazz, blues, country, and latin influences. They also talk about where the name Los Colognes comes from, and opening up for Grace Potter on tour.
Greg Vandy deserves a lot of credit for championing Los Colognes debut record, Working Together. He calls it his "#1 summer record of 2013" which sounds about right. There's also a cool conversation about Nashville and embracing a classic desert rock sound, which frontman Jay Rutherford says has to do with "the openness of the groove."
The band sounds great, and they've certainly got a bright future ahead of them. For more info on the band, check out their official website.
