Sometimes sampling culture feels like one giant Russian nesting doll. Perfectly illustrative of this is L.A. electronic musician TOKiMONSTA's "The World is Ours," which was leaked in 2009, but is seeing its first light as a mastered, officially-released track today. It samples Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell's 1967 duet "If This World Were Mine," and was in turn sampled on Isaiah Rashad's recent track "Menthol." Stream it above, and click the shopping cart to get a download in return for your email address.

TOKi's take on the sweet R&B song is exceptional, blending Gaye and Terrell's vocals with jazzy piano and a trip-hop beat. She chops up the pair's vocals to perfectly match the backing track's melody, showing DJs everywhere how a respectful, unique remix is done. Look out for more great things from TOKiMONSTA.

On SoundCloud, she wrote:

This song has been very close to me for years. I loved it too much to ever release it officially---all these mp3s online are poor quality rips off youtube or myspace. Here is the fully mixed and mastered version (thanks Daddy Kev) for you to play whenever you need to hear it.
