In a somewhat surprising move, King Krule has partnered up with Houston rapper / producer Travi$ Scott for a remix of his 2013 song "Neptune Estate." Stream the unusually-structured song above.
Starting with an atmospheric spattering of Krule's vocals and reverb-laden piano, the track abruptly changes around thirty seconds in, with distant, distorted chanting heralding the arrival of a verse by Scott. An ominous beat composed of thunderous 808 bass drums and a ride cymbal backs up his rapidly-recited lyrics, only to give way to the original track's horn section less than a minute after commencing. The horns and Scott only remain for a few seconds, after which "Neptune Estate" gradually recedes once again into a warped, minimal piano ballad. Scott clearly set out to break some rules with this remix, and he succeeded in making an avant-garde version of "Neptune Estate" that requires a few listens to fully digest.
