In 1970, Miles Davis recorded his landmark double live LP, Miles Davis at Fillmore, but that two-disc set was only a tiny portion of the massive concerts he actually played at the venue. Now, more than 40 years later, a huge collection of unreleased Fillmore recordings is slated to come out via Legacy Recordings.

Miles at the Fillmore—Miles Davis 1970: The Bootleg Series Vol. 3 will be released as a 4-disc box set, complete with a staggering 135 minutes of previously unheard music. In addition to Miles' Fillmore East performances, the set will also contain recordings from his shows at San Francisco's Fillmore West in April of that year. "Footprints," which you can stream above, was recorded April 11th, 1970. Interestingly, as Speakeasy points out, that show saw Miles and his band share the bill with the Grateful Dead.

The 11-minute track is a fluid jam, with effortless improv leading the way. His band -- Chick Corea on Fender Rhodes, Dave Holland on bass, Jack DeJohnette on drums, Steve Grossman on sax, and Airto Moreira on percussion and sax -- push and pull throughout the song, feeding off the dynamic energy. Things crescendo towards the 4 minute mark, beautifully coming right up to the edge of cacophony, but never crossing it. From there, they lock into a solid grove held by DeJohnette's drums and peppered by Corea's Rhodes. Listen to the song above.

Miles at the Fillmore—Miles Davis 1970: The Bootleg Series Vol. 3 will be out March 25th and you can pre-order through Amazon or iTunes.
