"Empire" - Shakira [YouTube Official Video + Lyrics]

Shakira has shared her new video for "Empire," off of her new self-titled album, released through Ace Entertainment.

The video starts with Shakira walking down a church aisle in a wedding dress, yet there doesn't seem to be a groom in sight. She then becomes a runaway bride, escaping through a field of grass. Though Shakira belts, "I wanna be yours," the act of running away during her wedding seems to convey the opposite. Once she escapes, there are some shots of her on the church steps with her wedding dress on fire. The second half shows her singing in a revealing black dress under a giant ball of light. The track begins as a pretty piano ballad with the band rocking out on the song's chorus, which is a series of distorted growls. The song becomes massive with pounding drums, loud guitars and a mysterious string arrangement. She sings, "Like the empires of the world unite, we are alive and the stars make love to the universe."
