“Streets On Lock 3” – Migos & Rich The Kid [Full Mixtape Stream + Download]

Here’s Migos’ third mixtape of 2014. Ok, Streets On Lock 3 is technically a joint release between them and fellow Atlanta rapper Rich The Kid, but at 26 tracks in length, it’s certainly another testament to Migos’ ever-increasing prolificness. Featuring guest spots from everyone from Wiz Khalifa to Ty Dolla $ign, this mixtape feels like a gargantuan party for hip hop’s rising stars. Stream and download it above, via DatPiff.

Less polished than Migos’ breakout mixtape, Y.R.N., Streets On Lock 3 is easy to get lost in, which could be taken as a good or a bad thing, depending on your opinion of Migos and Atlanta-style trap production. Despite a supporting cast who hail from all over the U.S., production on the mixtape is largely handled by Atlanta natives like Zaytoven, Metro Boomin and Honorable C Note, leading to a largely cohesive sound.

For that reason, picking standouts from the bunch is a difficult task, but by sheer virtue of diversity, the track “Dr. Dolittle” is worth mentioning. Migos, who are more famous for their “signature” flow pattern than heady lyricism, rarely appear on tracks that are too peppy for them to cram in quickly-recited triplets, but “Dr. Dolittle” is just that. A Zaytoven beat that sounds more like late ’90s Cash Money than 2014 Brick Squad fuels the uptempo number, and Migos compare themselves to Dr. Dolittle and Malcolm in the Middle in what turns out to be a short, sweet highlight on the long mixtape.

Other strong points occur on “In Too Deep” and “Islands,” the former of which features Young Thug and Rich Homie Quan providing one of the only instances of singing in rounds that I’ve heard in hip hop, and the latter is another typically enjoyable vehicle for Ty Dolla $ign to spin his ratchet tales. For the rest of Streets On Lock 3, the aforementioned, opinion-based rule applies — your enjoyment hinges on your level of Migos fandom.
